![]() ![]() I started out playing on the Xbox One version and switched to PC at a later time, so this review will contain a bit of both platforms. I went into this one with mixed expectations (due to the aforementioned reasons) but the gameplay looked so smooth and satisfying that I just couldn’t resist. Century is a free-to-play multiplayer dragon-riding arena battle game developed by Playwing Games. This game was not made for me.ĭespite this, Century: Age of Ashes is one of the dragon games I was most looking forward to trying out when I kicked off this blog. I bring this up at the beginning so that my complaints about this game have context. I just want to pay $40-$60 for a game that contains all of its content and not have to deal with grinding during limited-time seasons against other players who are just plain better than me. I tend to bounce pretty hard off of multiplayer games, especially of the free-to-play variety. ![]() ![]() I haven’t had a go of it yet, but our own Eric Switzer has and he reckons it’s the dragon’s bollocks.I’ll be honest, this is a difficult article to write, because I’m not the target audience for this game. This is a game that will do well and achieve real longevity if it attracts a sufficiently sizable playerbase. Look at the trailer, tell your friends - hell, pre-order it if you can. It didn’t get primetime slots at any of the showcases this year, including Gamescom ONL where it was sandwiched between Xbox’s Game Pass showcase and a weird football sim that was not, in fact, eFootball - but now you’re reading this, I’d urge you to go check it out. If you missed Century: Age of Ashes earlier this week, that’s pretty understandable. ![]() Like, is this not something that should be way up so many people’s alleys? Do you like fantasy? Do you like spitting fireballs at people? Am I just an eejit who is completely misunderstanding what makes a genuinely cool video game concept? No, I think not - it is the people who are ignoring this game who are in desperate need of learning. It seems ludicrous that a game about literally fighting dragons - which is just around the corner! - has made such small waves in the games community. It is novel despite the fact that it absolutely shouldn’t be, and I really hope more people start talking about it. Century: Age of Ashes is capitalising on a concept that, in hindsight, probably should have existed over ten years ago. ![]()
